Suzanne working on a mural for the City of Kingsport and listening to some tunes!
Suzanne's professional career in art started while she was still in high school in Kingsport, Tennessee.
"I remember well the day when one of my gym teachers asked me to do a painting of an osprey with a fish in it's talons. I was so excited. To think, someone was willing to pay me for this!!!! I knew then I was hooked, this was too fun!"
Suzanne continued to paint while she was earning her degree in Animal Science from the University of Tennessee. At this time, she was represented by the Grey Goose Gallery in Knoxville, Tennessee and Sydene Interiors of Arlington Virginia.
After graduation, Suzanne had her "Real Job" working in a cancer research lab at Vanderbilt University. As stimulating as a career in Science was, Suzanne still found her self taking "sick days" off from work to stay home and paint. This was to keep up with the demand for pet portraits she was doing for her colleges at Vanderbilt.
After the birth of their first child, Suzanne and her husband , Keith, moved back to Kingsport to open a coffee shop/ art gallery. The Hibbert-Davis Coffee Gallery sold coffee and espresso drinks as well as fine art. The Coffee Gallery represented over twenty local artist ,including Suzanne. The Justis' helped to promote the arts in Kingsport Tennessee and were recognized with many awards for their supportive endeavors.
After they sold the Coffee Gallery, Suzanne became very busy doing mural work. Her work can be seen all over East Tennessee and South West Virginia in numerous hospitals, offices, churches , schools, business, as well as many private residences.
Suzanne also has a Studio/Art Gallery in downtown Kingsport. Here is where she works on her " smaller pieces".
" The mural work is fun, but it is the canvas work I really enjoy. The Studio / Art gallery is the best working atmosphere I have ever had the privilege to work in. The light is perfect and the space is very inspiring for me."
In her studio, Suzanne enjoys visiting with the people that come in to watch her paint, look at her pieces, and just to gab. Suzanne enjoys experimenting with new mediums and perfecting her gift. The studio offers her just the environment to accomplish this.
Suzanne has been represented by numerous galleries and has received many awards for her work. She has done illustrations for books , t-shirts and greeting cards and has many pieces in private collections. Suzanne continues to volunteer her talents for many non for profit organizations such as the Junior League of Kingsport, The Children's Advocacy Center, The Boundless Playground, The Humane Society of Kingsport , Small Miracles ,and numerous schools and churches.
Suzanne lives with her husband, Keith and their two children, Hannah and Matt in Kingsport Tennessee.
